I've been regular crew for most of the YRA and OYRA races for the past several years crewing between 20-30 races every year, have completed hands on Safety At Sea (just renewed at Kaneohe YC in January 2024), Red Cross CPR/First Aid and competed in seven Chicago to Mackinac races (a 330 km course across Lake Michigan, typically 2 or 3 nights, 3 or 4 days of offshore sailing and just about every kind of weather condition you can imagine). Five of the races I was crew/1st mate, two as invited competitor and captain in the Tartan 10 class.
Even when not campaigning the Tartan 10 to Mackinac myself but being aboard as 1st mate, my leadership role has entailed being the planner, executing pre-race boat preparations, safety inspections, post-race delivery and other logistics. During the races I'm a navigator, tactician, driver and everything else aft of the mast. I've sailed in very competitive, vigorous and volatile conditions on Lake Michigan, performed many light repairs (electrical and instrument system troubleshooting, sail patches, diesel engine fuel system troubleshooting, repairs up the mast, etc). I'm very driven for safe and competitive racing and I'm physically fit, reliable, accountable, work well with teams and open minded. I can bring my Iridium Go, antennae, etc and my experience using it to get weather updates (of course within the bounds of whatever is allowed by the NOR, SIs, etc).
I have my own Tartan 10 here on the bay that I keep at Richmond Yacht Club. It's not race-ready yet but I'm working on it! I don't smoke at all.
